Putting the baby to sleep on her/his back has significantly reduced the risk of SIDS over the past decade. However, this does not always keep a baby safe; some babies have died who slept on their backs.
Co-sleeping with baby in bed is still controversial in some places and countries. Suffocation is a known risk for SIDS.
A few organizations work hard to reduce the risk of SIDS: First Candle, ISPID, and the CJ Foundation.
